Sports and Leisure at Mary Bilingual

Every student at Mary Bilingual gets time to run, play and relax. We believe healthy bodies make better learners, so sport is part of the weekly timetable for all forms.

Facilities

  • Full-size football pitch with grass
  • Two basketball courts and one volleyball court
  • Table-tennis room with six tables
  • Covered multi-purpose hall for indoor games and aerobics
  • 400-metre gravel track for athletics training
  • Basic gym with weights, bench press and rowing machine

Activities

Football is the favourite. Each class enters a team in the inter-house cup, and the best players represent the school in the Regional School League. Basketball, volleyball and handball train twice a week after class. Girls’ football and netball are growing fast; we field girls’ teams in local tournaments. For non-team sports there is table tennis, badminton, chess, scrabble and a fitness club that meets at 6 a.m. for road running.

Competitions and fun

We hold an annual sports day with track events, sack races, tug-of-war and staff-vs-students football. Boarders have movie night every Friday, day students can join the drama, dance or music clubs that rehearse in the multi-purpose hall. Recent additions are a photography club and a small vegetable garden where students relax while growing tomatoes and peppers for the cafeteria.
Whether you want to compete for trophies or just keep fit, Mary Bilingual gives you space, equipment and time to enjoy sport and leisure every week.
