Automobile Repair Mechanics

Automobile Repair Mechanics at Mary Bilingual Comprehensive High School

If you like cars and want a job that always has work, the Automobile Repair Mechanics course at Mary Bilingual is a good choice. We teach students how to find faults, fix engines, repair gearboxes and keep cars running safely.

About the course

The program lasts three years (Form 3 to Form 5). Students learn on real cars brought by local drivers and on training rigs donated by Toyota Cameroon. At the end you sit for the national CAP exam in “Mécanique Automobile” and you also get the Mary Bilingual high-school diploma. Classes are in English and French so you can read workshop manuals from Europe, America or Asia and speak to any customer.

Workshop and tools

The auto shop is 800 m² with space for twelve cars. We have:
  • Engine test benches
  • Diagnostic scanners for Toyota, Nissan, Renault and Peugeot
  • Hydraulic lift racks and pit bays
  • Wheel alignment machine
  • Tyre changer and balancer
  • Welding and cutting sets
  • Full set of hand tools for each student
Students wear safety boots and gloves. A teacher checks every job before the engine is started.

Daily work

Morning: theory lessons on engine systems, electricity, brakes and gearboxes.
Afternoon: practical work. Students service cars, change timing belts, replace brake pads and test-drive. Customers pay for parts; labour cost is low and the money goes into a fund that buys new tools.
Evening: optional extra practice or study of wiring diagrams.
